Upcycling Sargassum Seaweed for Sustainable Beauty

Time: 14:00 - 14:20

Over the past decade, an algae bloom the size of which the world has never seen has started covering the Atlantic ocean. Carried by currents, it washes up on the beaches of Mexico and the Caribbean islands where the seaweed starts decomposing, releasing methane gas, hydrogen sulphide and arsenic.

Fortunately, Carbonwave has figured out a way to turn this 30-million-ton problem into an opportunity, by upcycling the Sargassum into products for agriculture, artificial leather, and personal care. Through its proprietary technology, Carbonwave has launched the world’s first seaweed-based cosmetic emulsifier, SeaBalance 2000. August will speak to you about the sargassum challenge, how to turn problems into opportunities through upcycling, and of course about the multiple-award winning SeaBalance 2000, which can help you find the beauty in sargassum.
