Microbiota cutaneo: benessere e bellezza
Microbiota is recognized to have a key role in human health and diseases. It contributes to the establishment of an accurate immune system and to the good physiology and integrity of tissues. Microbial communities that live ‘in or on’ people would closely cooperate with body cells. Skin microbiota is especially known to be involved in pathogen defense (physical barrier, competition and specific antibacterial peptides). Long term disturbance of microbial ecosystems, such as regular use of ‘unfavorable’ cosmetic product, may lead to skin disorders or pathology (skin barrier altered, changes in beneficial metabolites or antioxidants, pathogen colonization…). Modulation of skin microbiota becomes an innovative approach to improve skin health. Beside in vitro studies and quantitative molecular approach of single bacteria, NGS technologies allow determining the whole taxonomic microbial composition from specific body niches and/or different groups of people. The effects of formulations on skin microbiota features can be investigated to verify that they are respectful of the microbial ecology.
Biofortis Mérieux NutriSciences is a Contract Research Organization with expertise in clinical trials and microbiota evaluation. Some case presentations will stress the important steps for the management of skin microbiota projects, from the study design to the data valorization.
