Synopsis
For decades, it has been a question of effectively validating the claims of make-up products that are advertised on finished products or in the files of active ingredients. The process of these evaluations is known from toxicological expertise, in-vitro irritation and sensitization tests, then tolerance tests on humans to finish with efficacy tests, often with preliminary in-vitro tests to be validated by in vivo testing. The methods to objectivate Make-up products are many and varied and it is often difficult for cosmetics scientists to find their way through the maze of regulatory obligations, analysis technologies or testing laboratories’ offers. The aim is to scientifically evaluate the performance of these cosmetics and their multiple activities with protocols adapted to marketing and regulatory expectations for essential claims such as hold, coverage, hydration or sebum regulation, among other examples, while following trends in claims such as microbiota, anti-aging, pollution.
