Synopsis

ENG: Artificial intelligence is now present in all phases of the cosmetic product lifecycle. In formulation, predictive and generative models propose compositions based on performance and sustainability constraints, reducing the number of prototypes. In biotechnology, molecular and protein models accelerate the discovery of active ingredients and the valorization of agri-food waste. In compliance, linguistic systems connect formulas, dossiers, and claims. This presentation offers a structured overview of these applications, distinguishing what is already in industrial use from what is still experimental. The main focus is safety assessment, where the transition toward bio-based ingredients, botanical extracts, and upcycled raw materials introduces variable compositions and often incomplete toxicological data. The session examines how QSAR models, assisted read-across, defined approaches for skin sensitization (OECD 497), and predictive models for biodegradability and ecotoxicity can support the Safety Assessor within the framework of Regulation (EC) 1223/2009 and New Approach Methodologies. The explainability of these models, their regulatory acceptability, and the core principle that the ultimate responsibility for the assessment remains human are also discussed.
