Microbeads: Environmental & Regulatory Threat

With the increasing pressure from NGOs, many groups are now advocating for the removal and ban of microplastics from Personal care products. In response to this growing issue various countries and regions are putting forward legislation banning microplastics. The main issue with this legislation is that no definition is associated with the ban and that the scope of the ban is touching ingredients which do not contribute to the marine litter.

This presentation will focus on the efforts done by industry to put forward a scientific definition  and to summarize EFfCI’s efforts to work together with other key stakeholders, in the chemical and cosmetics industry to obtain a common position
