As sustainability related claims continue to grow quickly, the need for cosmetic ingredients with high renewable carbon index (RCI) increases significantly. This trend includes preservation boosters, but established solutions like Ethylhexylglycerin and Caprylyl Glycol are typically fully petro-based.
As only few selected preservatives are allowed for natural certifications new options are requested by formulators to insure safe protection in a sustainable way. To address this strong market need Clariant offers three different naturally derived preservative boosters. These are Velsan SC (RCI 100%), Velsan Flex (RCI 93%) and Velsan CGE (RCI 100%).
Cosmetics containing these boosters require considerably less listed preservative to ensure safe protection. Remarkable is that the natural derived Velsan CGE outperforms the chemically similar, fully synthetic Ethylhexylglycerin.
In addition, these three different offerings cover versatile application needs. Velsan Flex is for example perfectly water soluble, which enables easily transparent natural formats without any additional need for a solubilizer.
On top of that, these natural derived boosters fulfil at the same time the desire for multifunctional ingredients. They can be applied as solubilizer, co-emulsifier, thickener, emollient or deo active.
In summary, Clariant offers versatile natural derived preservation boosters with multifunctionality and high RCI that help to ensure safe and effective product preservation.
